UKPSC APS Prelims Exam Pattern

The prelims exam consists of 5 tests. Only candidates who pass the Hindi and English typing tests will proceed to the computer knowledge test. Similarly, only those who clear the computer knowledge test will qualify for the Hindi and English stenography tests. The test of English Stenography will be of optional nature for preferential qualification.

UKPSC APS Prelims Syllabus

Hindi Typing

In Hindi typing on a computer, you need to achieve a speed of 8000 depressions per hour. If you don’t meet this speed requirement, you won’t qualify for the next step. Candidates who achieve a speed of 8000 depressions per hour will receive 10 marks.

English Typing

Computer Knowledge Test

Successful performance in the practical examination of computer knowledge is mandatory. Candidates must achieve a minimum of 50 percent marks to qualify for employment. Candidates who score below 50 percent will not qualify for the next paper.

  • Basic knowledge of working on Windows on desktops and laptops with peripherals like printer, scanner, microphone, speaker, and working knowledge of Software installation/uninstallation, operating systems update.
  • Working knowledge of Word processing packages and Unicode language basic knowledge (Microsoft Word, Open Office etc.).
  • Working knowledge of Spread Sheets in Microsoft Office Excel & Libra. Working knowledge of Hyperlink, attachments, and upload/download.
  • Conversant in the use of the World Wide Web and popular websites (for Railway/Air Reservation, search engines like Google, information web sites like Wikipedia, including government websites and 1905 CM helpline portal etc.).
  • Working knowledge of E-mailing (sending, sending with attachment, reading, saving, printing, maintaining address etc.).
  • Working knowledge of preparation of presentations (PowerPoint, PDF etc.) with different styles and animations.

Hindi Stenography

To become an Additional Private Secretary, candidates must be able to write in Hindi shorthand at a speed of 80 words per minute. During the test, candidates will listen to a Hindi passage and type it on a computer at the same speed within 35 minutes, based on a 5-minute passage. You will be tested on how fast you can type and how well you understand Hindi. Candidates who make more than 5 percent of the errors will not qualify for the job.

English Shorthand

To qualify for the Additional Private Secretary, you must be able to write down English words very quickly using shorthand. You’ll be given five minutes to type what you’ve written from a spoken English passage. This test checks both your typing speed and your understanding of English phrases. If you make more than five mistakes, you won’t be considered for the job.
